Last Thursday (the 5th), I went to Crossfit The Ville and I joined their gym (also called a “box” in the Crossfit community.) I didn’t really do a workout that day, but I introduced myself to the row machine.

Since my last post on the 21st of February, I’ve done a few workouts here and there. My foot has been pretty restrictive in what I can and cannot do.

I went to the gym today, made up my own workout, and did it until my foot was burning.

600 meter row
20 squats
20 sit ups
20 push press (15# dumbbell)
3 rounds
600 meter row

I ended up only doing 2 rounds of the workout before my foot bugged out. I realized, as I was doing the last 600m on the rower that it’s the rower that was jacking up the foot! D’OH! Well, just one more thing to add to my “can’t do” list for awhile. Bummer! I really like the row machine. KILLS my shoulders, but damn it’s fun!

So ummm yeah. My arms feel like jelly, my right foot caught fire (not literally) during the final 50 cal on the bike and I stopped at 35 calories. My toes are screaming at me. I have a foot doctor appointment Monday, so I’m hoping that IF he gives me another cortisone injection that it actually works for good this time, or we decide on either the surgery or the other procedure (decompression) for it. Either way, I want this pain to end because it’s effecting my workouts. And when my workouts are effected and I can’t do as much as I used to do, I go into high speed wobbles. My workouts are my therapy. Without my therapy I go a little wonky.

Monday February 18

My foot has been acting up a lot lately. I haven’t been able to do much and it’s wearing on me, that’s for sure. Normally, the workout he gave me would NOT have kicked my ass.

2 stair runs
30 squats
30 push ups
30 ring rows
30 calories on bike
2 rounds

It took me 25 minutes to do AND it kicked my ass. Ugh.

Tuesday February 12

then 5 minute plank holds.

Umm yeah. the push ups and the lunges KILLED my toes on the right foot so that during the plank holds, my foot cramped up pretty badly and I had to stop. I couldn’t do them with just one foot (resting the right over the left ankle)

Ugh! One good thing: I did all regular push ups, none on my knees. It was a struggle, but I did it! YAY for progress! One bad thing: My legs are super sore today and I’m sure he’ll give me something with lunges or squats in it for today. Bah.

4 rounds plus 10 reps

then:
5 minute plank hold – 100 jump rope penalty for every dropped plank (ARGH!)

I did 300 jump ropes again. AGAIN! So very difficult on this old lady’s bladder. *ahem*

Holy crap! That’s all I can say about this workout.

10 goblet squats
10 jumping pull ups
2 stair runs
10 rounds

It took me close to 40 minutes to get to round 8. That’s where I stopped thanks to my foot cramping up again. The jumping pull ups seemed to aggravate the ball of my foot and I could feel it starting to tighten up in round 7 and when 8 came around, that’s all she wrote. I pushed through to finish the entire round, but I was in way too much pain to finish it. I used a 35# dumbbell on the goblet squats.

It took me FOREVER to finish this workout because I had to stop twice and puke. I’ve been feeling pukey since I’ve started the smoking cessation program. I’ve caved a few times over the course of the last 10 days, but all in all, my body is freaking out on the lack of nicotine and other chemicals that are in the cigarettes. I’m going to become a nonsmoker, I’ll keep trying and I’ll get there. Even though I currently feel like death warmed over, I’m still moving forward. I want to become a nonsmoker in the next few months so that I can start training at a Crossfit box and train for the Reebok Crossfit Games. I’d have to go into the “master’s” group because of my age, but I’m okay with that.
